Specifically, we talked about the concept of an "entertainment budget" - the idea that we may want to consider keeping a record of what we watch, what types of movies, shows, videos we watch. We may want to then budget our time more wisely after looking at the content of these shows so that our choices honor God. Randall mentioned that he's written a paper around this and is willing to share his research with others.

Pictures and videos can be uploaded with little trouble to websites where grandparents can see them. Phone calls are generally cheap. Two-way video-conferencing over IM and sites such as Tokbox.com is very easy to set up and the webcams to allow video conferencing are pretty cheap. For those who may not connect quite as quickly, there are ways to set up family blogs or connect on social sites such as Facebook (used with discretion and wisdom, of course). Being a grandparent across the country does not mean that you can't be involved in your grandchildren's lives at all, though it may take a little more planning at times. Just some encouragement for those people who may have grandchildren who are not close to them.
